St. Stephen's Church seeks to be fully engaged with our neighborhood community. A major focus has been a growing partnership with the Blackstone Elementary School, located just a block away from the church.
Blackstone Elementary School Campaign
St. Stephen’s is working to build a partnership with the Blackstone Elementary School because we believe that “stronger communities = stronger schools!” We at St. Stephen’s want to be a neighbor by helping build up the Blackstone in three concrete ways:
- Rebuilding the school’s library:
Through service days and the help of weekly volunteers, we have created a fully functioning library where students can check books out, take books home, and provide a space that encourages literacy and gets everyone excited about reading!
- Renovating the school’s
greenhouse: The St. Stephen’s teen organizers recently lead a project to recreate a space in the school where students can come and learn about natural science in an active, living greenhouse.
- Supporting the school with
volunteers: St. Stephen's coordinates a network of volunteers from our staff, the community, area colleges and universities, and partner churches to volunteer either in a Blackstone classroom, at recess, or at the pool on a weekly basis to provide extra support to students and teachers. We also turn out hundreds of volunteers for special service days!
If you are interested in volunteering at the Blackstone or supporting any of these campaigns, please contact Liz Steinhauser at 617-262-9070 ext. 102 or lizsteinh@netzero.net.
