We offer two programs for neighborhood teens that include part-time job opportunities.

During the School Year:  The SPOT (St. Stephen’s Place of Opportunity for Teens)

The SPOT Program is for teens in grades 9-12.  Teens in The SPOT enjoy access to ongoing academic
support, a variety of enrichment opportunities, social events, and a comprehensive leadership development
program that includes The SPOT's annual community organization curriculum, which helps teens select and
take an action on one key issue that is impacting their neighborhood or community each year.  We also
offer individualized college and career preparation support for juniors and seniors.

30 teens in THE SPOT also work as paid Counselors-in-Training (CITs) in the after-school programs,
working 10 hours a week and earning $8/hour.  These positions are largely funded by the Boston Youth
Fund.  Responsibilities include homework help, leading tutoring activities, encouraging participation,
assisting with games, sports, and electives, and serving as mentors to younger students.  As part of their
jobs, teens receive ongoing training and supervision in groups and individually.

Over the Summer:  The B-SAFE CIT Program

90 teens age 15-17 may participate in the B-SAFE Program as paid CITs working 25 hours a week at
$8/hour.  Again, these positions are largely funded by the Boston Youth Fund.  As CITs, teens support B-
SAFE's academic and enrichment program activities for children, help chaperone field trips, and generally
serve as mentors and role models to children in the program.  In addition to a full week of pre-program
training, teens also receive individual supervision and weekly group training that includes group support,
sharing best practices, and team building.  More informally and individually, they have access to personal
and summertime academic support from other Youth Programs staff and adult volunteers as needed.
Teens also benefit from two hours of enrichment programming during the week, typically when younger
    children are off-campus.
